Physical Inactivity Independently Predicts Incident Depression in a Multi-Racial/Ethnic Systemic Lupus Cohort. Patterson SL, Trupin L, Yazdany J, Dall'Era M, Lanata C, Dequattro K, Hartogensis W, Katz P. Arthritis Care Res (Hoboken). 2021 Jan 9. View/download manuscript

High Disease Severity Among Asians in a US Multiethnic Cohort of Individuals with Systemic Lupus ErythematosusDeQuattro K, Trupin L, Rush S, Criswell LA, Lanata L, Dall'Era M, Katz P, Yazdany J. Arthritis Care Res  18 December 2020. view/download manuscript

Relationships Between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Health Status in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. DeQuattro K, Trupin L, Li J, Katz PP, Murphy LB, Yelin EH, Rush S, Lanata C, Criswell LA, Dall'Era M, Yazdany J. Arthritis Care and Research. May 2019. We found that adults with lupus who have a history of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)—such as abuse, neglect and household challenges—report higher disease activity, depression and poorer overall health as compared to those without ACEs. View/download manuscript

Integrative Multi-Omics Analysis Identifies Three Distinct Subtypes of Systemic Lupus Erythematous. Lanata CM, Parajnpe I, Nititham J, Taylor K, Gianfrancesco M, Paranjpe M, Andrews S, Chung SA, Chung SA, Rhead B, Barcellos B, Trupin L, Katz P, Dall’Era M, Yazdany J, Sirota M, Criswell LA. Nature Communications. Aug 2019.

In this paper we utilized clinical and genomic data to see if we could better define distinct groups of patients under the big umbrella of that we call lupus. We found 3 groups  that varied from mild manifestations to more severe manifestations. We also found that some genes were programmed differently between these three groups. View/download manuscript.

Psychometric evaluation of the NIH Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS®) in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cohort. Katz P, Yazdany J, Trupin L, Rush S, Helmick CG, Murphy LB, Lanata C, Criswell LA, Dall'Era M. Arthritis Care and Research. December 2019.

This paper examined the usefulness of a new set of questionnaires for people with lupus and among different racial/ethnic groups. We found that these questionnaires are relevant to people with lupus and will expand the topics that can be studied (to include sleep, “brain fog,” and social interactions) without adding long questionnaires. View/download manuscript

Quality of Care for the Screening, Diagnosis, and Management of Lupus Nephritis Across Multiple Healthcare Settings. Aggarwal I, Li J, Trupin L, Gaynon L, Katz PP, Lanata C, Criswell L, Murphy LB, Dall'Era M, Yazdany J.  Arthritis Care and Research. May 2019.

In this study, we examined the quality of clinical care for kidney disease (lupus nephritis) across 25 clinical sites. We found the quality of healthcare for those with lupus nephritis was high in the Bay Area. However, the study identified room for improvement in regularly screening for kidney disease among people with lupus. View/download manuscript

Multiplexed droplet single-cell RNA-sequencing using natural genetic variation. Kang HM, Subramaniam M, Targ S, Nguyen M, Maliskova L, McCarthy E, Wan E, Wong S, Byrnes L, Lanata CM, Gate RE, Mostafavi S, Marson A, Zaitlen N, Criswell LA, Ye CJ. Nature Biotechnology 2017;36:89-94.

This paper described a new technology that allows us to measure all the genes that are expressed in a single cell. It is a powerful tool that will help us further study and understand the causes of lupus. View/download manuscript
